Varicose vein treatment and removal options are many. Knowing which spider vein treatment to use is something that a doctor or surgeon can help you with. Remember, not all varicose vein removal treatments are the same.

The following is an overview of the new and more traditional varicose vein treatments available:

Sclerotherapy Vein Treatment

This is probably the most widely known method. This is the case for both spider veins and varicose veins. The surgeon will inject a special solution into the cells which will cause the veins walls to become hard. Then they will stick together and remain shut. This will cause the vein to essentially die, as it loosed the blood flow. This treatment may need to be followed up a few weeks later. This is an effective treatment and can produce results in as much as 90% of cases.

Possible side effects of this spider vein removal include stinging, small sores near injection site, temporary brown lines and fine lines of red blood vessels.

Laser Spider Treatments

Very effective for varicose veins in the legs, lasers are now being used to remove these unsightly problems. The lasers used for spider vein removal are of a very intense nature. Bright pulses of light will be sent into the vein. This will cause the vein to simply disappear over a time. This is a very accurate form of varicose vein treatment. In addition, most skin types react very well to the laser treatment. This can of course be more attractive form of treatment since it involves no cutting. But, the laser vein treatments, which last as long as 20 minutes, can be slightly painful. These procedures are also accompanied with a cooling system so that spider vein removal doesn’t have to be quite so uncomfortable. This is a form of treatment that can get you back on your feet in no time.

Potential side effects of this varicose vein removal include redness, some discoloration which may last for 2 months, burns and rarely scars.

Endovenous Vein Techniques

Knows as radiofrequency or laser, these newer methods are allowing for the effective spider vein treatment in the legs, especially saphenous veins. These techniques are replacing surgery for a large number of patients. This form of varicose vein removal and treatment can actually be performed in  doctors office, as it is minimally invasive.

This is done with a very small catheter that is put inside the leg vein. Once the catheter is in place, a very small amount of radiofrequency is emitted to shrink the vein. This effectively causes the shrinking and sealing off of the vein, again causing the vein to fade away completely. This is a great way to approach the varicose vein treatment if sclerotherpy has not been successful in the removal of you varicose or spider vines.

 There are far less possible side effects with this vine treatment. May cause some bruising.

Surgical Ligation and Vein Stripping Removal

Reserved for large and difficult veins, this treatment is ideal for veins that are hard to treat. These veins may need to be surgically removed. This does not actually affect the leg's blood flow in any meaningful way. This surgery will need a local and possibly a general anesthesia. This is a very tried method for the very hard to treat veins.

There are possible side effects with this type of vein treatment such as anesthesia risks, bleeding, nerve damage, deep vein clots and leg pain for several weeks.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy Vein Removal

A light that marks the vein area and plots the course for the tiny cuts that are made to then pull the vein out of the leg. Very large vines can be removed with this method. Most patients will return to normal after this in a few days.

This possible spider and varicose vein removal methods side effects may include bruising and temporary numbness.

 Endoscopic Vein Surgery

With this vein treatment surgery, a camera is inserted into the spider or varicose veins. Then the veins are removed through small cuts. Most people who undergo this form of vein removal will have some kind of anesthesia, including perhaps spinal, epidural or at least general. People who go through this kind of vein removal can return to their regular activities within several weeks.
